Website Design and Optimization for the Local Business:(20/25)

Do I need to have a privacy policy and/or terms of conditions?

Most business owners won’t think about including a privacy policy or terms of condition page; and this could be because they are simply the most boring pages on any given website. And your site may not actually need one. However, it’s actually not a bad idea to include one to protect yourself should a user ever have a problem with your site. And if you’re going to be collecting personal data from your users, you absolutely need to have one – this is the only time it’s actually required.

A good web designer will also be able to help you outline a privacy policy and there are even samples online that you can use. Here is a list of common things your privacy policy should include though, if you choose to have one:

  • Privacy statement
  • Information about collection and use of user’s information
  • Log data
  • Information about cookies
  • Service providers used
  • Security provided to users
  • Information about links to other sites, especially third-party sites
  • Children’s privacy, especially if your website caters to those older than 13 or 18
  • The chance of changes to the privacy policy being made at any time
  • Who the privacy policy was created by
