What should I look for when hiring a web designer?
Once you’ve made the decision to hire a web designer, of course you want to get the best one out there. There are a lot out there (just do a quick Google search to see!) but you can whittle the list down to only the best by asking just a few simple questions.
- How long have you been in business? This isn’t to say that web designers new to the field are bad, but using a designer with experience certainly has its benefits. Not only will they have the knowledge to deal with problems, or prevent them from ever popping up in the first place, but they’ll also have a larger portfolio for you to peruse to get a feel for their work.
- Do you have a portfolio of working sites I can visit? This one’s fairly simple. If they have work you can look at you’ll be able to understand better what they can do for you, and this will give you a better idea of whether or not you want to use them.
- Do they have testimonials from past clients? There is no better reassurance that a company is good than by hearing it from real people. You don’t have to rely on their website or the testimonials they provide alone. Do a quick Google search for reviews on them and find out what people have to say.
Do they have samples of how well their past clients have ranked in the search engines? One of the greatest benefits that comes with hiring a web designer is that your website will rank higher in the search engines than if you simply built a website yourself. Just like you want to see examples of websites they’ve built, you also want examples of the high-ranking sites they’ve designed.
